Try taking out the two drives and checking which one is the master. does it list the contents of the drive... Open the DVD rom bay on your laptop. Do not worry you do not need to touch anything.
Tired of doing that, I took a soft cloth, dipped it in home dry cleaner and wiped the lens. I don't think I have them any longer but I'll look around.
