I can read off of it but it is not accessable if I try to burn to it. Is there any hope of getting this Philips drive to work or should I give it the flotation test and buy something else? It was never the greatest of burners (although it wasn't that bad either) but everything seemed to recognise it. It was interesting each time I tried to burn a CD - my whole system would fall apart, and parts of the program splattered all over the monitor!!

It was not in vain after all, because when I was writing audio cd's before it was slow as well. Well, I got the latest shareware of Nero Burning ROM, and it is working great - at half the price of Adaptec. Nero 22.214.171.124 and later (possibly earlier as well) will recognise this drive as a writer. She got a copy of EZ CD Creator with the drive and installed it without asking me first and it completely ****ed up her system.
