Quite poissbly the media player tries to get some information from the internet connection, so running up the cpu to 100%. I can't say for sure - haven't used MCP-HC of SMP that long, but they both seem to play all vids.

How fast is your computer? I have fast quad processor & plenty free RAM. Then go to player settings and check the "launch files in fullscreen" box. Is there another package I need to download? For ATI cards and Intel, apart from drivers, xvba-va driver needs to be installed. And make sure it's variable (VBR), not constant rate (CBR).
Everything just worked much better (and the sound was phenomenally better!) when using the pure video pack. For some idiotic reason you can't do that at all in vlc 2.x.
