Be sure to enable Show Processes From All Users. Playback on VLC is totally fine for both type. Hopefully not the integrated Intel HD Graphics 2000, they still suck. Haali and CoreAVC always worked fine in the past.
Some prove better than others but none of them solved the problem. My ancient northwood P4 HTPC can play 1080p mkv video alright with with a HD3870 and a 7200rpm sata drive.
