I discovered that the .html file types were not assigned to a program and none of the usual step would allow me to assign it. There is a pref.js file but I don't know what to do with that or if it would help. Trying to google for similar cases was pretty much impossible, at least for me. To do that: Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder from the Troubleshooting Information page. Settings, System, Default Apps - that's one way.
