Look at BOTH TABS, the Important and the Optional. Crazy stuff like a broken install that reverts back to two distros previous..... The chromium browser seems faster than the old epipany browser ..all this for $35!
Ditto. RealVNC have ported their VNC server and viewer applications to Pi, and they are now integrated with the system. Tried reinstalling it? Sounds like the hardware is not playing ball with the distro.

Just as a note here. The ‘cryptic' messages are often the first signs of any problems and the best way to solve boot and startup problems when things go wrong. I'm having no issues with Win 7. Before suggesting to simply download the unwanted driver or to use the alternative CD install, these have all been proven abysmal failures for this bug, thanks.
