If the fix doesn't work for you, remove it by restoring the Registry to its prior state. There is no reason to suspect their recurrence. I have checked connections and the fans, all seems alright there. Was it removed??
There may be numerous files with the same name (but different version numbers!) variously located in the I386, SYSTEM32, and SYSTEM32\REINSTALLBACKUPS\0000 folders. and never does.. 2 hrs later its still there like it was.. Reinforces my belief that computers & the Windows OS are WAY too complicated and patchwork. It gets to the "shutting down" page and pretty much sits there and won't shut down.
Some problems especially appear where multiple users are enabled on the system and one switches between users during a single Windows session. When these devices are used with Selective Suspend turned on, the computer may hang during shutdown, or otherwise not shutdown correctly. There's no dought in my mind this is a nortons problem.... MCE 2005 is mostly XP Professional, Service Pack 2, with greater abilities with the right hardware to integrate recording and organizing music, videos, and what have you. Fingers crossed..

You can force the critical Registry setting with the "ShutNTdown" Registry patch. Please follow sensible Registry editing protocol. The setting you want to change is going to be something along the lines of how long you have to hold down the power button before the computer shuts down. This is why your screen goes blank but your machine is still running.
